Dental Exams

Regular dental exams are a crucial part of preventative dentistry because they allow the dentist to address dental problems in their early stages, and to identify serious problems. Most people need an exam every six months, but she/he may recommend more frequent visits depending on your circumstances.

Why do I need dental exams?

Dental problems tend to get worse when left untreated. When your see the dentist for regular visits, small problems won’t have a chance to become major concerns. For instance, the longer tooth decay goes unchecked the more damage it can do to a tooth, and the less of the original tooth that can be saved. Good hygiene and dental visits are cost-effective, too. It costs much more to have teeth repaired and replaced than it does to have regular exams and cleanings. Routine exams also give you the best chance for early detection and treatment of serious oral problems.

What happens during a routine dental exam?

Usually an exam and cleaning are scheduled during the same appointment. The dental hygienist will first give your teeth a thorough cleaning. Then the dentist will review the x-rays, and if necessary take new ones. The dentist will make a visual inspection of the inside of your mouth, and may use instruments like a long handled mirror, and a dental explorer. If all is healthy, your gums will be firm and pink, and your teeth won’t have any soft, rough or discolored surfaces. The dentist will recommend treatment for any signs of decay or other problems, and make notes on any conditions that deserve observation on the next visit.

How often do I need exams?

Many adults require exams every six months. If your mouth is prone to tooth decay, tartar buildup or gum disease, the dentist will recommend more frequent appointments.

Professional and very friendly group! Excellent experience and Dr Lyman didn’t want to do unnecessary procedures!! My last dentist ALWAYS wanted to do $3000-$5000 work on me and my husband.

I had a problem with work that was performed by another dentist. I was hurting, scared and anxious. Dr. Lyman and his staff worked me in quickly and were supportive of my physical (and unfortunately emotional) needs at the time. Dr. Lyman explained that the work I had with the other dentist wasn't the problem, even complimented the other dentist's work. He then showed me what needed to be done and got me set up with a specialist to get taken care of. I couldn't be more grateful for he and his staff.

Green Acres family dentist Has always gotten me in, in a timely manner. They've Worked kindly to accept my ability to pay my bill. Once I had to cancel at the last minute and they were very understanding. The girls at the front desk are super helpful and treat me with a genuine care. I REFERRED my oldest son there, and years later he's still with them.

Dr. Lyman and his staff are very kind and friendly. It’s easy to feel comfortable and at home in their office. Several hygentists work there. Every single one has been thorough and gentle. Dr. Lyman has done a good job on every procedure he has performed on my teeth I highly recommend these people and this office.
